In ancient times, it was believed that possessing animal signs and symbols allowed a person to embrace the power and abilities of that animal. This is one of the reasons why the Roman army used animal figures on their shields and armor. Another belief is that after big feasts, panthers sleep in caves for 3 days. When it roars, the panther chooses its next victim and the cycle begins again. Ancient Greeks also believed that panthers were Dionysus' favorite riders.
